Couronnement d'Albet II

It looks as though the more international of the installation ceremonies for Albert II will be 19 November instead of 12 July. It would appear that the 12 July ceremony is designed more for the benefit of Monegasques and perhaps residents and others working in the Principality. Monaco's national day, 19 November, appears to be the day when more of the world beyong Monaco will be invited to attend.

Monaco Classic Week

Monaco Classic Week

There is a story in Nice Matin today about this year's program, scheduled for 13-18 September. Often, stories about what's going on in Monaco appear only in the Monaco Matin edition of Nice Matin. That's a loss for those who live outisde the Principality or who choose to read an edition of Nice Matin other than the one from Monaco.

Alas, the most recent information about the event on what appears to be the "official" website is from 2003.

A blogger for Monaco?

A blogger for Monaco?

I started this blog to see what the potential might be to draw out more of the story of Monaco for an audience beyond the Principality's borders. There is much more to be done to test out the thesis that there is both valuable content to bring forward through this mechanism, and a meaningful market of people interested in consuming what appears here.

Here is an idea to consider along with other items appearing in other "posts" in this blog.

What if Monaco were to hire someone to continue this on a regular basis, engaging people, promoting the existence of the Monaco Blog, etc.? Some people would respond that this would be simply another public relations initiative. They would be right EXCEPT if a condition is imposed like those used by leading newspapers in the US and in some other countries.

That condition is that the person "hired" to do this discloses exactly what he/she is being paid AND the "employment agreement/contract" runs for, say, 2 years, without possibility of being cut and without possibility of being extended. If the person chosen did any other work in or related to Monaco, that would have to be disclosed as well.

Something to consider?

"A First Step on African Aid"

"A First Step on African Aid"

Yes, this is a sensitive piece of geography for Monaco at the moment - Africa. But, put aside for now the allegations that Prince Albert is the father of a child born to a Togolese mother.

What country would be better suited in terms of its geographicl location and its internaitonal reputation than Monaco to become a real global center for the development of Africa? Imagine if the world looked to Monaco each day for news of the continent and looked to the Principality as a center of knowledge and support to help solve the continent's worst problems and advance sustainable development for the people of Africa.

A new newspaper in Morocco for children

A new newspaper in Morocco for children

This is an editorial from La Vie Economique in Morocco praising the efforts of a young publisher (22) to launch a new weekly newspaper in Morocco for kids 8-14 years old. Wouldn't Monaco be a great place to create at least an event or two either for these kinds of media initiatives around the Mediterranean an/or thorughout the world?

Getting up ahead of America

Getting up ahead of America

No European country has so far sought to capitalize on the fact that its professional workforce rises many hours ahead of most people in the US. In the US, we rely on those inveterate souls who work through the evening and some work through the night to bring us the news of the day when we awake.

Why could not Monaco become a place that tells the world's story to people all over the US using people to do this who get to work early, but not in the middle of the night? It could be marketed in this way: "Look to Monaco for your earliest news of the rest of the world.

Note how the ANSA news agency in Italy has chosen to do essentially this sort of thing for the entire Mediterranean basin with their ANSAMed service. That said, look again at this English verison, and you will not find Monaco even listed!

"Forget About Milk and Bread. Give Me Gossip!"

"Forget About Milk and Bread. Give Me Gossip!"

Monaco, especially the GRIMALDI family, cares a lot about this kind of trend. Perhaps Monaco could be a place where solutions to the challenge could be considered, and maybe even addressed.

Monaco news

Monaco news

On any given day, there seems to me to be a number of stories in various media outside the Principality dealing with sports in some fashion. What is striking is not these stories are being written as in many cases as it would appear that those following the particular sport would find these news items to be of importance. No, what is surprising is to find virtually no other news on most every day coming out of Monaco. Why is this?

Monaco Minutes

There are many ways in which Monaco might better present itself to the world. One such possibility is the "Monaco Minute"(TM), a one minute audio "story" from and/or about Monaco. It might be an interesting person speaking. It might be an important issue. It could be anything that fits compellingly in a minute of audio time. You will see examples here in the multiple languages of contemporary Monaco.
